Shepherds of Helmand Trailer
Posted by admin · 13 Comments
In 2008, a group of 17 volunteers from the Oregon National Guard deployed to Afghanistan to train a battalion of the Afghan National army. Their mission was to conduct counter narcotics patrols in the deadly Helmand Province, a region notorious not only for its opium production but as a Taliban stronghold. This is the story of one of the most decorated units in Oregon National Guard history.

My husband was a part of this 17 man team and was hit by the after effects of an IED killling a british soldier on August 18th 2008. As I watch the trailer for this documentary I cant help but wonder why was my husband was in the position he was in when injured. Why was he blown up and lived and others did not. Why was Bruno killed? What was the mission at stake? As my husband lay in a hospital bed in Washington DC with major wounds that should have killed him, I wonder what made these men trendge on. Why were these men selected for this mission and others were not. My husband is now home healing from his wounds and as he shows me the pictures and footage he came home with on his camera I pray every day for the soldiers that are still there fighting. Fighting for…………what…….our country, no I think not. Has this country become so greedy that we are willing to take the lives of our men and women. I still have friends over in Afghanistan today fighting, taking care of the wounded soldiers. I do not understand! Hopefully in listening to these soldiers stories I will be able to grasp some of what I do not understand. Some of what my husband still can not tell me to this day. Thank you: Rani Campbell

God bless these brave men. I am a Iraqi vet and I understand how hard it is to talk about some of the things we were forced to see and do. You are an insparation to your country.
